The Short Answer
The landfill on Zemel Road takes household and construction debris by weight, and the rate depends on where the waste was generated and whether a construction load has a building permit number. County waste with a valid permit number costs $49.88 per ton, and everything else costs $99.74 per ton. The gate closes earlier on Saturday, and the landfill takes card payments only.

The Building Permit Number Rule
The permit number rule decides the rate on a construction load. The landfill page says haulers of construction and demolition debris must provide the building permit number for the site where the material originated, and that scale house staff verify it using the county's permitting software. A load without a valid permit number is charged the out-of-county rate of $99.74 per ton. On a 5-ton roofing load that is $498.70 against $249.40. Our dumpster permit guide covers the difference between this number and a placement permit.
What the Landfill Refuses
The landfill refuses items that are hazardous or regulated. It does not accept used motor oil and filters, lead-acid batteries, rechargeable batteries, mercury devices, fluorescent bulbs, hazardous wastes or bio-medical wastes in a general load, and it directs households to curbside programs and Mini-Transfer Facilities. Our prohibited items list shows where each item goes.
