The Short Answer
Pick junk removal for a few items and a dumpster for a pile. Dropcurb lists $79 for one couch and $98 for a couch and a chair on its per-item service, and says a dumpster is the better fit for renovation debris. The more items and the more time you have to load, the more a dumpster saves. We sell dumpsters, not crew pickup.
Dumpster Rental vs Junk Removal Side by Side
The two services differ in who loads, how they price and what they suit. The figures are Dropcurb's national numbers, not Punta Gorda quotes.
| Dumpster rental | Per-item junk removal | |
|---|---|---|
| Who loads | You load at your pace | The crew loads |
| How it is priced | Size, days, weight allowance | By item or by truck load |
| Example price | $294 to $480 for a week nationally | $79 for one couch, $98 for a couch and a chair |
| Best for | Cleanouts, remodels, roofs, yard debris | A few large items |
| Weight | Included tons, overage per ton | Not usually a factor |
| Time to finish | Days, on your schedule | One visit |
When a Dumpster Costs Less
A dumpster costs less when the pile is large or the work spans days. A garage, an estate or a remodel puts dozens of items and heavy debris in one place. A 20-yard dumpster holds a kitchen remodel or about 3,000 square feet of single-layer shingles, according to CustomTruck, and it costs one weekly rental. Our junk removal dumpster rental page covers cleanouts.
When Junk Removal Costs Less
Junk removal costs less when you have a few items and no time. A single couch, a mattress or an appliance moves in one visit, and the per-item price is lower than a weekly rental. If the pile fits in a corner of the garage, a pickup service handles it. If you are clearing a room, a dumpster is cheaper by the second or third piece of furniture.
What Charlotte County Adds
Charlotte County sets the disposal rate under both services. The Charlotte County Landfill charges $49.88 per ton for waste generated in the county, and both a dumpster hauler and a junk crew pay it. On a dumpster, the included weight is in the quote and overage runs about $50 to $150 per extra ton nationally. Our weight limits and overage fees guide covers it.
How to Decide
Deciding takes three questions. First, count the items, and under about a handful, price a pickup. Second, ask whether the debris is heavy or from a renovation, which points to a dumpster. Third, ask how much time you have, since a dumpster waits for you and a crew finishes in a visit. Call us if you are close to the line.
